Douglas Alan Van Buskirk died peacefully on September 9th 2022 in Houston,Texas. Born and raised in Long Island, New York on October 16,1940, Doug was the only son of Bertram and Azalia Van Buskirk.

Doug was a proud graduate of Lehigh University where he received a degree in geophysical engineering. Doug went on to work for Chevron where he spent 35 years as a geophysicist. During his career, he and his family moved 13 times in 13 years, finally settling in Houston, Texas.

Doug was an accomplished woodworker. One of the highlights of each year was his annual trip to meet with other woodworking enthusiasts where they would bid on and trade rare species of wood. Doug was especially talented using a lathe to make bowls, pens, and vases using wood from every corner of the earth.

Douglas’ love for family was never ending. He is survived by his wife and highschool sweetheart of 60 years Jane Van Buskirk, and his children Gregory Scott Van Buskirk, and Kimberlee Anne Van Buskirk Ellis. Douglas is also survived by three grandsons, Douglas Van Buskirk, Ryan Roy, and Nicholas Van Buskirk, as well as one granddaughter Taylor Malekian. Douglas’ family is thankful that he remained with us long enough to meet his only great grandchild Ara Jean Malekian just a few days prior to his passing.

Douglas was a true gentleman. He was a selfless steward to his friends and family. Ever faithful to each and every one of them. His memory will endure as a generous man of loyalty, strength, character, and conviction. He will be forever remembered for his sly wit.

A celebration of his life will tentatively be held later this year, date and location to be announced.
