Magnolia West claims playoff spot

Kai Aroca scored the go-ahead touchdown with 4:51 left on a 3-yard run, giving Magnolia West a 22-19 win over Friendswoo­d on Friday night at Winston Stadium in Friendswoo­d.

The victory in the District 10-5A Division I game sends Magnolia West to the playoffs as a No. 4 seed.

The game was the finale for Friendswoo­d head coach Robert Koopmann, who announced his retirement earlier in the week.

Koopmann is wrapping up his 11th season as Friendswoo­d’s head coach and has spent the last 29 years at FHS.

Walker Winters gave Friendswoo­d a 19-15 lead with 1:12 left in the third quarter with his 1-yard scoring plunge.

That set the stage for Aroca’s touchdown.

NORTH SHORE 56 KINGWOOD 7

North Shore capped a perfect regular season with a win in a District 21-6A matchup at Galena Park ISD Stadium.

Evan Jackson, the Mustangs’ No. 3 quarterbac­k, completed 8 of 12 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

Junior receiver Christophe­r Barnes had six receptions for 101 yards and two scores.

Jayven Anderson had an intercepti­on return of 28 yards for a touchdown, marking the third straight week he has accomplish­ed the feat.

North Shore will host Dobie at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Division I playoff game.

CYPRESS CREEK 49 CYPRESS RIDGE 20

Cypress Creek jumped to a two-touchdown lead and maintained control in taking a win in a District 17-6A game at Pridgeon Stadium.

Cypress Creek led 14-0 after one quarter and opened a 28-7 halftime lead.

In the second half, Yalance Brown ran for one score, and Brad Jackson threw a touchdown pass to Jamon Richardson for another touchdown as the Cougars opened a 42-13 lead.

TEXAS CITY 42 NEDERLAND 7

Texas City used a 21point first quarter en route to earn a playoff berth at Bulldog Stadium in Nederland.

The Stingarees lead 21-0 after one quarter and built a 35-7 lead by halftime.

Texas City, which will play Lake Creek next week, eventually took a 42-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Stingarees will join Fort Bend Marshall, Port Neches-Groves and Dayton in the playoffs from District 9-5A Division II.

DEER PARK 34 SOUTH HOUSTON 7

Deer Park eased past South Houston in a District 22-6A matchup at Abshier Stadium.

The Deer will host Atascocita at 7 p.m. next Friday at Abshier Stadium in a Division I playoff game.

South Houston will travel to Turner Stadium next Friday to play Summer Creek in a Division II matchup.

DAWSON 42, ALVIN 20

Playoff-bound Dawson wrapped up District 23-6A play with a win at Memorial Stadium.

The Eagles will play No. 1 seed Clear Falls at 7 p.m. next Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in League City in a Division II playoff game.

SEALY 56, LA MARQUE 13

Sealy quarterbac­k D’Vonne Hmielewski proved to be unstoppabl­e in the first half as the Tigers rolled to a over La Marque in a District 10-4A Division II game at Etheredge Stadium.

Sealy led 35-0 at the end of one quarter and 49-0 at halftime.

KATY 49, KATY TAYLOR 7

Katy built a 35-0 halftime lead before cruising to a 49-7 win over Katy Taylor to complete a perfect 10-0 regular season at Legacy Stadium.

In doing so, the Tigers rewarded head coach Gary Joseph with his 250th career victory.

SANTA FE 32 WILLOWRIDG­E 7

Santa Fe’s Jackson Stroud helped engineer decisive touchdown drives in the first half as the Indians took a win in a District 9-5A Division II game at Indian Stadium.

Santa Fe ends its season with a 6-4 record while Willowridg­e finalized its year with a 1-9 mark.

LUTHERAN SOUTH 55 ST. JOHN XXIII 14

Lutheran South wrapped up the regular season with a convincing win over St. John XXIII at Glassell Stadium.

The Pioneers look to earn a berth in the TAPPS Division II playoffs next week.

MANVEL 28, TERRY 7

Using a dominating defense, Manvel turned back Terry in a District 10-5A Division I game at Traylor Stadium.

Manvel led 14-7 at halftime before opening a 21-7 lead in the third quarter.

ANGLETON 45, KEMPNER 7

Angleton scored early and often in defeating Kempner to earn the District 10-5A Division I title at Wildcat Stadium.

Angleton led 21-0 after one quarter before building a 35-0 halftime lead over the Cougars.

KLEIN CAIN 49, TOMBALL 10

Jaelen Smith ran for three touchdowns and passed for another as Klein Cain wrapped up the District 15-6A championsh­ip with a win at Tomball ISD Stadium.

The Hurricanes built a 35-3 halftime lead.

ALIEF TAYLOR 29 ALIEF ELSIK 6

Alief Taylor will head to the playoffs with momentum after taking a win over rival Elsik in a District 23-6A finale at Crump Stadium.
