Hey last-minute shoppers, here’s what stores are open today
Thursday is Thanksgiving and as sure as there will be turkey, football and cranberry sauce from a can, there will also be government, store and restaurant closures, as well as changes to transit.
The following is a list of what is open and closed this week:
Grocery stores Thursday:
Select stores are observing holiday hours. H-E-B is open until noon and select CVS stores are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Whole Foods will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Kroger will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Aldi, Walmart and Trader Joe’s will be closed Thursday.
Friday and Saturday: All stores above will be open.
Restaurants Thursday:
Fast food restaurants, including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Dunkin’, Popeyes and Whataburger will be open at most locations.
Select Houston restaurants will also be open. Thrillist and Eater have compiled top places for Thanksgiving dinner, including State Fair Kitchen & Bar, Back Table, Turner’s, Backstreet Cafe, Rainbow Lodge and more.
Government
Thursday: Federal, state, county and city offices and courts closed.
Friday: State, county and city offices and courts closed.
Thursday: No collections or deliveries of regular mail; all Postal Service offices and branches closed; some Priority Express mail delivered.
Transit
Thursday: Local bus service and MetroRail are to operate on a Sunday schedule; no Park & Ride routes.
Friday: Local bus service to operate on its Sunday schedule; MetroRail operates on its Saturday schedule; no Park & Ride routes.
Garbage
Thursday: No garbage or recycling collections; all Solid Waste Management Dept. facilities, neighborhood depositories and Westpark Recycling Center closed.
Friday: Thursday’s garbage, yard waste, and 4th Thursday & 4th Friday’s tree waste collected. Curbside recycling will be collected Dec. 8. Neighborhood Depositories, Westpark Recycling Center, Environmental Service Center, and the Reuse Warehouse remain closed.
Saturday: Friday’s garbage, yard waste collected. Curbside recycling will be collected Dec. 9.
