ALLAN MIDDLETON

04/18/1924 - 12/05/2022

-

On Monday December 5, 2022, Allan Guthrie Middleton, endearing husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 98. Allan was born on April 18, 1924 in Houston, TX to Adam (Gus) and Ruth Middleton. He served during WW2 in the U.S. Navy as a shipfitter before joining the family business building and operating tug boats and barges in the Houston ship channel. After a brief courtship, he married Auralee on April 29, 1944. They raised two sons, Wayne and Michael, and a daughter, Lucinda.

The life of Allan can best be summarized through James 2:18: “Someone will say ‘you have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” Allan was a man of few words of affirmation, yet nobody who encountered him could question the love he displayed through his work, his sacrifices, and through his commitment to providing for his family. Every child who’s experienced his Rockport home knew the pleasures of feeding squirrels, catching fish, and the thrill of driving a nail into a board. His skill as a bowler was only surpassed by his skills in carpentry and the ability to create beauty out of spare parts found in his shop.

Allan was preceded in death by his father, Gus, his mother, Ruth, his brothers Alfred, Ivan (Ray), and John (Scooter), his wife Auralee, his son Wayne, and his great-grandson Peter. He is survived by his son, Michael, his daughter, Lucinda, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and honorary family member Zella Hunt.
