Déjà vu: Beyoncé adds a second date in Houston to tour

- By Joey Guerra

Just a day after announcing an initial run of Renaissance World Tour dates, Beyoncé has added second shows in several cities due to “incredible fan demand.” Including Houston.

The new date is Sept. 24 at NRG Stadium. Fans can register until 11 a.m. Friday in Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program for a chance to get tickets. Cities are separated into three groups: A, B and C. Houston is up first in the A group.

According to a Live Nation statement, “fan demand already exceeds the number of available tickets by more than 800-percent based on current registration numbers in the Group A cities.” Seven new dates have been added but “it is still expected that the majority of interested fans will not be able to get tickets because demand drastically exceeds supply.”

Houston is the next-to-last stop before the tour wraps in New Orleans. Dallas is the only other Texas city on the schedule.

The Renaissance World Tour kicks off May 10 in Stockholm and is overseas through June.

Beyoncé's last trek was the Formation World Tour and included two local dates at NRG Stadium.

“Renaissance” was the best album of 2022, a soulful and heartfelt love letter to the queer community. Beyoncé dedicated the album to her Uncle Jonny, whom she calls “my godmother and the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and culture that serve as inspiration for this album.” She also recognized “all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for far too long.”

Jonny was the nephew of Tina Knowles-Lawson, Beyoncé's mother, who also called Jonny her best friend. In 2019, Beyoncé dedicated her GLAAD Media Vanguard Award to Jonny, calling him “the most fabulous gay man I ever knew, who helped raise me and my sister.”

“Renaissance” is up for 10 Grammys at this weekend’s ceremony, including album, record and song of the year.

Beyoncé's BeyGOOD foundation will host Black Parade Route luncheons in several cities that celebrate small business owners. BeyGOOD will also provide scholarships to colleges and universities in 10 different cities along the tour.
