No. 19 Miami cruises to 22-point demolition of Duke

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Norchad Omier had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Jordan Miller added 16 points and No. 19 Miami had little trouble on the way to a 81-59 win over Duke on Monday night.

Wooga Poplar scored 14 and Isaiah Wong scored 11 for Miami (19-5, 10-4 Atlantic Coast Conference). The Hurricanes led by as many as 26 and improved to 13-0 at home.

Ryan Young and Dereck Lively II each scored 11 points for Duke (17-7, 8-5), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Jeremy Roach added 10 points for the Blue Devils, who were outrebound­ed 38-31 and committed 21 turnovers.

It was the second-biggest Miami victory margin in the series between the schools, topped only by the Hurricanes’ 90-63 rout of then-No. 1 Duke on Jan. 23, 2013.

John Walker III scored 21 points and was backed by a strong all-around performanc­e by PJ Henry as the Tigers won at the H&PE Arena.

Henry totaled 14 points, six assists and five steals as Texas Southern improved to 8-16 overall and 4-7 in Southweste­rn Athletic Conference play.

Davon Barnes added 11 points for the Tigers.

William Douglas had 19 points, Tekorian Smith added 17 and Hegel Augustin scored 16 as the host Panthers cruised past the Rattlers.

Georgia Amoore scored a career-high 27 points with five 3-pointers, Elizabeth Kitley had 25 points and 14 rebounds and the visiting Hokies won the 18th annual Play4Kay event, celebratin­g the life of former Wolfpack coach Kay Yow.

Virginia Tech won for the first time in 13 games at North Carolina State and improved to 3-26 overall in the series.

The Tigers' bid for their second victory of the season came up short as a potential game-tying layup was missed with 13 seconds remaining in the game at the H&PE Arena. Andriana Avent led the Tigers (1-21) with 15 points off the bench.
