Nathan Fred Rattner, 79, passed away on February 4, 2023. He was born in Houston on December 12, 1943, to the late Melvin and Anne Rattner. He graduated from San Jacinto High School and attended the University of Houston. In the summer, Nathan liked to visit his maternal grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Wharton, Texas. For Nathan, it was fun riding the train across the states to stay with his fraternal grandparents in Mobile, Alabama. It was a joy for the family to travel to the original Beth Yeshurun, on Southmore, to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah.

Nathan worked with his brother Stephen Rattner at Sofwear Shoes for over 20 years. For decades, Nathan loved to drive his blue van around Houston while listening to 50’s music. He helped his mother run errands to the grocery store, pharmacy, bank, and beauty shop when she could no longer drive. Nathan was happiest with his nieces and nephews sharing meals around the table.

He is survived by his brother, Stephen Rattner, and his wife, Janice. His sister Sharon Levit. Many nieces and nephews, Jennifer and her husband Johnny Coe, Michael Rattner, Marshall Levit and his wife Abigail, Stuart Levit, Scott Levit, and Erinn Levit. Great nephews and nieces Julian and Johnny Jr. Coe, Jacob, Hannah, and Hadassah Levit.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, @ 1:00 pm at Beth Yeshurun cemetery, 1037 Post Oak Rd. In his memory, a donation can be made to a charity of choice.

Nathan will be remembered for being a gentle and kind person.
