After high school, Mom continued her education at Cortland State University, in upstate New York, obtaining a BS Degree in Early Education and graduating in 1959. Her first job was teaching the 2nd grade in Bay Shore, New York (Long Island) at South Country Elementary School. Ellen and Bud married August 19, 1961 in St. Agnes Catholic Cathedral. After starting a family in 1963, Ellen and Bud moved to Baltimore, Maryland and lived there for 7 years. By July 1972, Ellen and Bud had 4 children; Sue Ellen, Stephen, Peter, Christopher. The next chapter, would lead the family of 6, to Portsmouth, Rhode Island for 4 years. The next and final move was to Houston, Texas in 1978. All 3 of these moves were due to Dad working for Shell Oil. Mom was an avid sports fan rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and her beloved Houston Astros. She loved going to her children’s and grandchildren’s events and cheered emphatically. She was the ultimate event planner who always pulled the family together during holidays, birthdays, and many other special times. Upon Bud’s retirement, they made trips to Ireland, Italy, traveled extensively in the US and always found time to return to Long Island, New York where it all began.
