Miami entices Dawson from UH

- STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

The University of Houston is in search of an offensive coordinator as it enters the Big 12.

Shannon Dawson, who has been with the Cougars for four seasons, is taking the same position at Miami, according to multiple reports.

Dawson joined coach Dana Holgorsen’s staff as tight ends coach in 2019 before he was eventually named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, guiding a passing attack that was led by quarterback Clayton Tune and wide receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell .UH ranked in the top 20 in scoring the past two seasons, averaging 36.1 points per game in 2022 and 35.9 points during a 12-win season in 2021.

Dawson is the second coaching change for Holgorsen this offseason. Brandon Jones, the co-offensive coordinator/ run game coordinator/ offensive line coach, was not retained and replaced by Eman Naghavi.

The Cougars’ offense will look different this season with the graduation of Tune and early departure of Dell to the NFL draft. UH signed former Texas Tech quarterback Donovan Smith from the transfer portal, added several receivers, among them four-star signee Mikal HarrisonPilot, and will welcome back star running back Alton McCaskill from a knee injury that sidelined him last season.

Joseph Duarte Bobo returns to Georgia: Mike Bobo reclaimed the offensive coordinator job at Georgia, with Todd Monken leaving the two-time defending national champions for the NFL

Bobo, a former Bulldogs quarterback, also served as offensive coordinator under former coach Mark Richt. Bobo, who had head coaching stints at Colorado State and South Carolina after leaving Georgia following the 2014 season, returned to his alma mater a year ago as a quality control analyst for the offense.

Monken accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Baltimore Ravens after serving on a staff that guided Georgia to back-to-back national titles.
