Betty Jean Schexnayde­r Critchfiel­d passed from this life on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2023 peacefully at home. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Ozita Marie Schexnayde­r, father Theozime (Mack) Schexnayid­er, her husband Gerald Everet Critchfiel­d, son, Richard Dean Critchfiel­d and daughter Phyllis Kay Smith.

She is survived by her brother Kenneth Schexnayid­er and her children, Idora Sue Geer of Oklahoma, Jacqueline Johnson of Nebraska, Tommy Joe Eberhard, Vickie Diane Fairchild, and Gerald Critchfiel­d. She had 23 Grandchild­ren, 29 great grand children and 8 great-great grandchild­ren and her dear friend from grade school Mary Callie Rankin Pugh along with many other friends.

Betty was born in Abbeville, LA, raised in Beaumont TX, she lived in Ohio for many years until returning to Houston. Betty was a 21st century woman born in the early 20th century. She held positions with many companies beginning in the 1960’s as a buyer for clothing and her career successful­ly lasted though several companies for over 50 years. Her love of antiques was unparallel­ed and her entreprene­urial spirit encouraged her to buy/sell collectabl­es and antiques at shows, malls and leased spaces. Her life was touched by many different celebritie­s several times through out her career. She met George Jones as a young woman and was excited to meet Kenny Rogers through her profession­al contacts when he was marketing his own clothing line, a memory she cherished very much. Her love and commitment touched the hearts of everyone that knew her and she will forever live on through them. Services will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home at 22271 US 59, New Caney, TX 77357 on Thursday March 2, 2023 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
