UConn continues to rule Big East

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Aaliyah Edwards had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead No. 7 Connecticu­t to its 10th consecutiv­e conference tournament title with a 67-56 victory over 10th-ranked Villanova in the Big East tournament title game Monday night.

Dorka Juhasz added 16 points and Lou Lopez Senechal scored 14 for the top-seeded Huskies (29-5), who earned the conference's NCAA bid. UConn has now won 21 Big East tournament crowns, including the last three since re-entering the conference in 2020.

Evonne Ejim had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for her ninth career double-double, Brynna Maxwell made four 3-pointers and scored 18 as the Bulldogs advanced to the championsh­ip game of the West Coast Conference tournament at Las Vegas.

Gonzaga (28-3) will play Portland in Tuesday’s final.

Justice Ethridge and Essence Booker scored 16 points apiece and the Rebels rolled to their 20th straight victory in the quarterfin­als of the Mountain West tournament at Las Vegas.

At Pensacola, Fla., Peyton McDaniel made seven 3-pointers and scored 30 points, and the Dukes beat the Bobcats for their first Sun Belt tournament title.

Da’Nasia Hood, coming off a 30-point, 16rebound semifinal, was held to 15 points for Texas State (23-9).

SAM HOUSTON ST. 82 ABILENE CHRISTIAN 81

Mikayla Woods’ threepoint play with two seconds remaining gave the Bearkats a Western Athletic Conference tournament win at Las Vegas.

Woods hit a layup to tie the game, was fouled and made the free throw to send Sam Houston State (13-16) to Wednesday’s quarterfin­als versus top-seeded Stephen F. Austin.
