Belinda C. Shufelt, born July 4, 1958 in Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on March 8, 2023 while surrounded by family and loved ones. Belinda graduated from Bellaire High School in 1976, before attending Texas A&M University, where she graduated in 1980 with a Masters in Education. Belinda found her calling as a teacher at Pershing Middle School, where she spent over 15 years educating and impacting the lives of hundreds of children in the Houston area. Belinda taught english, history, and photography/yearbook, and served as coach of the cheerleading and swim teams during her time at Pershing. Belinda also served as president of Bellaire Little League when the Bellaire Little League team won the National Championship at the Little League World Series in 2000.

Known affectionately as “Mrs. Shufelt” to her students, no matter their age, and “Mama Shu” to the number of her sons’ friends who were always welcome in her home and to her snacks, Belinda treated every person in her life as family, as she was a strong proponent of the adage, “family is earned, not born into.” In her spare time, Belinda loved reading, and spending time with her loving husband and best friend Terry, her sons, and spoiling her grandson.

Belinda was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jo Vogt, and father, Billy Ahart. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Terry Shufelt, sons Justin and Colton, daughter in law Kelly Shufelt, grandson Hendrex, as well as brother in law Morris Chalmers and his wife Sharon Evans Chalmers, niece Bailey Chalmers Vuorensyrjä and her husband Ilari Vuorensyrjä, and nephew Wyatt Chalmers.

The funeral services for Belinda Shufelt will be held at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, 11:00 AM. The Shufelt family welcomes any who wish to attend the service and pay their respects to Belinda, but also asks for their privacy during this difficult time.
