Nho Huu Do, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, surrounded by his family, in Houston, TX. A loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, kind brother, caring uncle and loyal friend, Nho spread love and generosity to everyone throughout his exceptional and memorable life.

Nho was born August 1, 1935, in beautiful Da Nang, Vietnam. He was fourth in line in a family of four sons and two daughters. Growing up he loved to swim, travel, read history and work with science and technology. Nho attended college in Vietnam two years early and received a presidential scholarship to study forestry engineering in America. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Georgia in Athens. When he returned to Vietnam, he served as a forestry engineer for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the South Vietnam Republic.

He married the love of his life, Kim Nhung Do, in 1961. They would have four daughters born in Vietnam, and a son born later in the United States. When the Vietnam War was at its height, Nho entered the military, became a well-decorated officer, and served ten years in the Republic of Vietnam Air Force. He was a commanding officer responsible for the transportation logistics of the air force base in Da Nang. In 1975, at the turning point of the war, Nho remained and coordinated the mass evacuation to fly thousands of civilians and soldiers to safety.

The family left Vietnam days before the fall of Saigon in the spring of 1975. They settled in Spokane Valley, Washington and eventually relocated to Seattle, where Nho worked as a machinist at The Boeing Company for 15 years until his retirement in 2001. He and his wife then moved to Houston, Texas to spend their twilight years, where they devoted most of their energy to the betterment of their family and friends. Outside of his family, Nho made it his mission to help those less fortunate in obtaining an education. He offered support and sponsored anyone looking to improve their life through higher education, whether family, friends, or anyone in need. Always a man of principle, he taught his children and grandchildren the importance of honesty and hard work. He had a gentle and kind sprit and was always humble and selfless. Soon after arriving in the United States, he found true joy in watching his beloved Seattle Seahawks play football every Sunday. However, his ultimate joy in life was spending time and doting on his loving wife, Kim Nhung Do. His eternal love for her was unmatched even after her passing in 2019.

Nho is preceded in death by his wife, Kim Nhung and his daughter, Myly-Uyen Tien. He is survived by his children Aimee Giang-Tien, Gigi Diem-Uyen, Julie ThucUyen, and Avril Viet-Nam; sons- and daughter-in-law and six grandchildren; He is also survived by his sister in Da Nang, Nguyen Thi Luyen and brother, Do Huu Vien. Finally, the Do Family would like to thank all the doctors and medical professionals for their tireless efforts and the utmost compassion in caring for our father throughout this journey.
