Steer’s 2B spoils Cobb’s no-hit bid

SAN FRANCISCO — Spencer Steer doubled with two outs in the ninth inning for the Cincinnati Reds’ first hit against the San Francisco Giants’ Alex Cobb on Tuesday night.

With Cobb one out from a no-hitter, Steer sliced an opposite-field double that landed just over the outstretch­ed glove of right fielder Luis Matos.

Nick Senzel was credited with a single in the third inning on a two-hopper that third baseman Casey Schmitt snagged with a backhand grab. The rookie's throw from foul territory was high and pulled a leaping J.D. Davis off the first-base bag.

Phillies 12, Angels 7: Alec Bohm followed an intentiona­l walk to Bryce Harper with a go-ahead threerun homer, and Philadelph­ia won its fifth straight.

Braves 3, Rockies 1: Marcell Ozuna hit his 30th homer, and Charlie Morton won his 14th game.

Orioles 9, White Sox 3: Anthony Santander hit a go-ahead three-run double in the seventh inning.

Rays 11, Marlins 2: Randy Arozarena, Josh Lowe and Isaac Paredes homered for visiting Tampa Bay.

Cubs 1, Brewers 0: Justin Steele struck out eight in six effective innings to lead host Chicago to a win.

Guardians 4, Twins 2: Cleveland overcame an early exit from starting pitcher Gavin Williams.

Dodgers 9, Diamondbac­ks 1: Mookie Betts hit his 36th home run as Los Angeles battered Merill Kelly.

Cardinals 6, Padres 5 (10): Tommy Edman singled home the winning run in the 10th after Willson Contreras homered to tie the game in the eighth.
