C.E. King faces stiff test vs. North Shore

Last week delivered some exciting finishes and big upsets across the Houston area. There are more enticing games this week, including one of just nine matchups of unbeaten teams across the state.

Thursday Angleton (3-2, 2-1) at Fulshear (4-0, 2-0)

District 10-5A Division I 7 p.m. at Traylor Stadium

The teams shared the Disrict 10-5A Division I title last year. Running back Davion Godley went off for Fulshear last week with 226 rushing yards and two scores. Angleton quarterbac­k Clinton Washington threw four touchdown passes in a loss to Magnolia, the Wildcats’ first district defeat.

Fulshear 41, Angleton 24.

Rob’s prediction: Fulshear 36, Angleton 33.

Pasadena (3-2, 0-1) at Dobie (3-2, 1-0)

District 22-6A

6 p.m. at PISD Veterans Memorial Stadium

Dobie is coming off its biggest victory of the season, knocking off defending district champion Deer Park 38-35 on the road. The Longhorns trailed 28-7 at halftime before staging the rally. Cameron Mathews has rushed for 100-plus yards in four games. Dobie is 19-0 against Pasadena since 2004.

Friday

Elsik (3-1, 1-0) at Pearland (3-1, 1-0)

District 23-6A

7 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium

Elsik has three victories for the first time since 2017, and it defeated Strake Jesuit 26-21 in the District 23-6A opener last week. Pearland is coming off a massive 20-13 victory against defending district champion Shadow Creek.

Rob’s prediction: Pearland 28, Elsik 20.

North Shore (4-0, 1-0) at C.E. King (4-0, 1-0)

District 21-6A

7 p.m. at Sheldon ISD Panther Stadium

No. 2 state-ranked North Shore has outscored its opponents 185-33. The Mustangs have had little trouble scoring with quarterbac­k Kaleb Bailey running the show. Quarterbac­k Darius Clark-James has been a standout for C.E. King, completing 68.6% of his passes for 1,153 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Humble (2-2, 0-1) at Summer Creek (4-0, 1-0)

District 21-6A

7 p.m. at Turner Stadium Summer Creek is allowing just points 8.75 per game. Humble quarterbac­k MacArthur Baker threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to C.E. King.

Rob’s prediction: Summer Creek 24, Humble 21.

Katy (4-1, 3-0) at Jordan (4-0, 2-0)

District 19-6A

7:15 p.m. at Legacy Stadium

Katy and Jordan are two of the three unbeaten teams in District 19-6A play. Katy has been dominant since a non-district loss against Atascocita, winning three straight games by a combined score of 154-28. After allowing 21 points in its opener against Eisenhower, Jordan has held opponents to single digits in each of the last three games.

Cypress Ranch (3-1, 1-0) at Cypress Springs (4-0, 1-0)

District 16-6A

7 p.m. at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium

Cypress Ranch is averaging 42.6 points per game. Cypress Springs has been no stranger to the scoreboard either. The Panthers are averaging 42.7 points per game en route to the program’s best start in two decades. Senior quarterbac­k Harrison Mass has passed for 697 yards and 11 touchdowns against just two intercepti­ons.

Westfield (2-2, 1-0) at Dekaney (3-1, 1-0)

District 14-6A

7 p.m. at Planet Ford Stadium

After losses against Hightower and No. 2 state-ranked North Shore, Westfield rebounded on Friday with a 44-27 win over Spring. Dekaney has reeled off three straight wins after falling to Klein Oak in its opener. Rob Tate Jon’s prediction: Westfield 31, Dekaney 14. Rob’s prediction: Westfield 29, Dekaney 20.

Friendswoo­d (3-2, 2-1) at Magnolia (3-2, 2-1)

District 10-5A Division I 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium

Friendswoo­d and Magnolia missed the postseason last year but are in good shape so far. Magnolia’s Hunter Andrews totaled 236 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Anglteon. Friendswoo­d quarterbac­k Brock Foster passed for two scores and rushed for two more in a win over Foster.

Port Neches-Groves (3-1, 1-0) at Texas City (4-0, 1-0)

7 p.m. at Stingaree Stadium

The biggest question surroundin­g PN-G is the availabili­ty of quarterbac­k Shea Adams, who missed the last game against Marshall with an injury. That being said, the team’s defense has been stout this year. They are holding opponents to 14.3 points per outing.

Saturday

George Ranch (5-0, 3-0) at Ridge Point (3-2, 3-0)

District 20-6A

6 p.m. at Mercer Stadium George Ranch is 5-0 for the first time since 2015 and has outscored its opponents 173-89. Ridge Point is averaging 55.3 points per game in district play and 44.8 for the season. Junior quarterbac­k Austin Carlisle has passed for 1,243 yards and accounted for 19 total touchdowns on the season.
