HCA Northwest opens hybrid operating rooms

- By Ralph Green

HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is continuing a $69 million expansion after recently opening new and improved operating room spaces.

Part of a three-phase project, additions included hybrid operating rooms, a new neurosurgery suite and several renovations to operating rooms and waiting areas.

The hybrid OR features a room for cardiovascular, electrophysiology and surgical procedures, as well as a third neurosurgery room.

Along with these new rooms, the hospital will have five renovated outpatient operating rooms with new equipment and a beach theme, and a renovated waiting area.

The additions and upgrades help the hospital continue “meeting needs” accompanying growth “but also creating a great patient centered space for our patients and their visitors and families to enjoy,” said Scott Davis, the hospital’s chief executive officer.

Visitors driving up to the hospital on St. Edwards Lane near Spring may also notice the new parking lot with over 100 parking spaces, including four time-automated

electric car charging stations.

HCA Northwest is continuing work on its biggest phase of the expansion, which started two months ago, for its Women’s Services and neonatal intensive care unit expansion. The new 25-bed NICU is expected

to open in the next eight months.

“Great space for our mom and dads to take care of their babies while they are in the NICU because obviously that’s very important as we work to get those babies out of the NICU,” Davis said. “Just a great wonderful

space that’s going to be able to allow great connection for the parents and as well as a great healing environment for those tiny little babies.”

The hospital’s previous NICU space will be renovated to use for overflow with a transition nursery, four labor and delivery rooms, and a C-section suite that is expected to open in a year and a half.

Davis said in honor of the hospital 50th anniversary, it’s been great to see it grow with facility updates and state-of-theart technology.

“You really want to be providing the latest and greatest right state-of-the-art care for your patients,” Davis said. “The primary driver behind all of this is making sure that we are able to provide the best care that we can to our patients, in addition to the growth we’ve seen in that service line. We obviously had to be able to address the growth and I think that growth has come from the quality of the program as well as the patient experience.”

Davis isn’t only excited about the hospital’s new hybrid operating rooms but said that a unique part of this expansion is how they designed the space and the aesthetics inside. Davis said the new art and setup makes the hospital feel like a hotel environment, instead of a hospital.

As the hospital continue to expand, it has added over 17,000-square-feet and has renovated 11,000-square-feet of its existing space as part of its $69 million investment.
