DR. RAUL I. CARVAJAL

Dr. Raul Ignacio Carvajal Alvarez passed away suddenly July 27, 2023 He was born in la Playa de Santa Fe, La Habana, Cuba. September 20, 1937 and preceded in death by his parents Felix Carvajal Olivares and Blanca Alvarez Carvajal, his brothers Felix L. Carvajal, Jose Felix Jelenszky, Alberto Carvajal, and Jose Carvajal. He is survived by his sister, Marta Carvajal, numerous nieces and nephews and his devoted and loving partner of 37 years, Duane Boyd.

Raul received a Bachelor in Philosophy and Accounting Degree from the University of New York, and a Doctor in Public Health degree from the University of Texas. He worked several years as Director of the HIV and the Substance Abuse Programs in the Harris County Jail, Houston, Texas. Dr. Carvajal was awarded the MacAdory Award from the AIDS Equity League for outstandin­g services to the HIV incarcerat­ed community and the 2001 Bradley-Scott Award by the Harris County Hospital District for efforts in greatly impacting health care services in the community.

He was a positive, happy and remarkable human being. It was a delight to hear his numerous adventures traveling around the UK and parts of Europe in a very diverse and amazing life. Upon retirement Raul was dedicated to serving his community and proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 47 years of sobriety.

Raul was known for his dry wit, small acts of kindness and gift of gab. He developed close and lasting relationsh­ips with many friends. His smile and laughter were contagious and he was always there to lend a helping hand or provide sound advice, solicited or not! He will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.

While you may be gone, your presence and memories will last forever!
