Fertitta to expand Houston business
Landry’s owner buys key land parcel near Memorial Park
Billionaire Tilman Fertitta has purchased a prime parcel near Memorial Park, opening an opportunity for him to expand his business along one of the Inner Loop’s busiest corridors.
The hospitality and gaming tycoon announced the acquisition Thursday of 5757 Memorial Drive, where a Comerica Bank is located. The branch was still open Thursday. Comerica Bank will rent the property until at least summer, when it plans to move, a Fertitta spokesperson said.
The 1.6-acre property is just east of Memorial Park and Bayou Bend, north of River Oaks.
“Memorial Drive is a renowned thoroughfare in Houston, and the synergy with Brenner’s (steakhouse) on the Bayou nearby made the decision simple. The adjacency of River Oaks and Memorial Park only enhances the appeal of this location, and we look forward to expanding our business in this area,” Fertitta said in a statement.
Fertitta is exploring development opportunities for the site, a spokesperson said.
Brenner’s is owned by Fertitta’s hospitality company, Landry’s Inc. Fertitta also owns and operates the nearby event venue White House.
According to Harris County records, the property was bought by an entity tied to Fertitta for an undisclosed price in October and has an appraised value of $791,630.
“We are constantly evaluating real estate opportunities and I am thrilled to add this premium location to our expanding portfolio,” Fertitta said. “This property represents more than real estate; it is a great asset strategically positioned to create opportunities that will only further elevate the already dynamic area.”
