After heroically battling kidney cancer for three years, Joseph Dalton Huntsberry Jr. passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Friday, December 15th, 2023, in Houston, Texas. He was 73 years old.

JD was born on November 3rd, 1950 to Laura Maye and Joseph Dalton Huntsberry Sr. in Houston, Texas. The eldest of three siblings, he graduated from Marion High School and attended Texas Southern University. He then began working as a machinist at Cameron Iron Works. In 1984 JD joined the ranks of the Houston Police Department, where he served the citizens of Houston for more than 26 years. The majority of his tenure was in Special Operations as a member of the Mounted Patrol. He retired as a Senior Officer in 2010. During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and working with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Dalton Huntsberry Sr., and is survived by his loving family: wife, Linda Chan; son, Joseph Dalton Huntsberry III; step-daughters, Jacquelyn Newell (Shelby Swyhart) and Alessandra Sexton and husband, Adam; beloved granddaugh­ter, Jaelah Huntsberry; mother, Laura Maye Huntsberry; brother, John Huntsberry (Elaine Simmons); sister, Laura Huntsberry; nieces, Ashley and Kiandra Huntsberry, and a host of other relatives and friends.

JD’s last months were under the wonderful care of the non-profit Houston Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family graciously requests memorial contributi­ons be sent in his honor to Houston Hospice at 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77030-4123 or www.houstonhos­pice.org. Memorial Service and Internment 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024, the Gathering Space at the Center for Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Avenue Houston, Texas 77007.
