TONYA KAURA

09/14/1957 - 12/15/2023

-

Tonya Thomas Kaura was born on 9/14/1957 and passed from this life on 12/15/2023, after a brief and private battle with bilateral brain tumors in home Hospice Care.

Tonya was a pediatric bone marrow transplant nurse at Cook Children’s Hospital for 20 years and loved all her kids with all her heart. She then worked as a hospice nurse at Houston Hospice and found still more to give to those patients as well.

She graduated with honors with a master’s degree in nursing and completed board certification as a clinical nurse leader.

Tonya married Dr. Richard Kaura on 2/14/1998. He was her caregiver during her battle, and she said he took excellent care of her, and that he was the best husband, and father to Kelly and Ernest.

Debra Thomas Cooper, Tonya’s dear sister, a longtime hospice nurse, was also an excellent caregiver and provided endless unselfish assistance when Tonya needed it most.

Tonya leaves behind the loves of her life, Dr. Richard Kaura, Kelly Jean Thomas and Ernest Thomas II; her sister, Debra Thomas Cooper and her husband Ronnie Cooper, Debra’s daughter Keely and her husband Kenneth, with their sons Kaiden and Kash.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jack B. Thomas, her father Ernest Thomas and her mother JoAnn Thomas.

Per Tonya’s repeated requests, no funeral services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, which Tonya never cared about getting, Tonya asked that contributions be made as a tribute gift to the following:

Hospice Care Team (409) 938-0070 hospicecareteam.org

Visiting Angels - Webster (832) 632-2273 visitingangels.com

Houston Hospice. (713) 467-7423 houstonhospice.org/donate)

Profound thanks for all the hospice caregivers; their compassionate, attentive and tireless care of Tonya on her journey to be with the Lord.
