DAVID LEE CAPPS, born June 30, 1933, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Harold Odgen Capps and Marie Bourne Capps, passed away on January 3, 2024. He is predecease­d by his beloved wife and best friend of 59 years, Patsy Ann Reed Capps; parents; and sister Judith Mary Capps Lazarus. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Jennifer Severinson (David), Pamela Allen (Steve), Patricia Capps Welton, and Stephanie Capps (Raul Pavon). He will be greatly missed by his grandchild­ren, Rachel, Ashley, Claire, Alexander, and Marielena. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Kathleen Tully, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

David’s family moved from Wisconsin to Texas when he was four years old, and he grew up in the Garden Oaks area of Houston. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1951; served his country in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1956; received his undergradu­ate degree from the University of Texas in 1958; worked at Texaco, Inc. while attending graduate school; and received his law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1962. David practiced law for 54 years. He was board certified in Family Law and had a private practice in the Cypress area for many years. He loved the law and represente­d all of his clients with integrity, respect, and a passion for justice.

David touched the lives of many with his honesty, ethics, compassion, and willingnes­s to work tirelessly helping others. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and was actively involved with scouting and other civic and community activities. He was a dedicated member of Lions Internatio­nal for over 30 years, serving as a charter member and past president of the Cypress Creek Lions Club. He was a proud recipient of the Lions’ Melvin Jones Fellow Award. David was a charter member and past board member of the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce; a former board member of Cypress Assistance Ministries; a former member of the Board of Trustees of Cy-Fair Hospital; a member of Texas State Historical Associatio­n; and a proud member of the Reagan High School “Dollar Club” and Reagan Lunch Bunch.

David loved Texas history, reading, being outdoors, and traveling. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed learning to play the guitar in his later years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfathe­r who will be deeply missed.

To honor both David and Pat and their love of hosting fun gatherings for family and friends, a celebratio­n of life will be held in late April to share good food, good wine, and many good memories. Please reach out to the family for details.
