TSU tops Alabama State at home

PJ Henry scored 21 points, and Deon Stroud made two free throws with 44 seconds left to play to rally Texas Southern to a 56-55 victory over Alabama State on Monday night at H&PE Arena.

Henry shot 6-for-15 (3-for-10 from 3-point range) and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line for the Tigers (7-12, 5-3 SWAC). Jonathan Cisse added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Antonio Madlock paced the Hornets (10-10, 5-2) with 17 points.

NO. 7 DUKE 77 VIRGINIA TECH 67

Jeremy Roach scored 16 points to lift the Blue Devils over the Hokies.

Bothered by knee and ankle injuries of late, Roach shot 5-of-11 from the floor and made four 3-pointers for the visiting Blue Devils (16-4, 7-2 ACC), who have won three straight and 11 of 12.

MJ Collins paced Virginia Tech (13-8, 5-5) with 17 points.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 87 ALABAMA A&M 76

Javontae Hopkins scored a career-high 31 points to spark the Panthers to a win over the visiting Bulldogs.

Hopkins added five rebounds and three steals for Prairie View A&M (8-12, 3-4 SWAC). Orlando Horton Jr. scored 20 on 8-for-14 shooting.

Alabama A&M (3-17, 2-5) were led by Chad Moodie, who recorded 21 points and three blocks.

Women MISSISSIPP­I STATE 77 NO. 9 LSU 73

Darrione Rogers scored 19 points, and Mjracle Sheppard added 12 as the Bulldogs (17-5, 4-3 SEC) used a strong defensive effort in the third quarter to beat the visiting Tigers.

The loss was the second straight for the defending national champions, who fell to No. 1 South Carolina 76-70 on Thursday. It was the third loss in five games for LSU (18-4, 5-3).

Jaida Belton scored 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Tigers (4-15, 3-5 SWAC) from falling at home.

Ryann Payne scored 27 points to lift the Panthers (8-9, 4-3 SWAC) over the visiting Bulldogs.
