UH to open Big 12 at Cincinnati

The University of Houston opens Big 12 play with a road game at Cincinnati on Sept. 21 and travels to TCU and Kansas as part of the 2024 football schedule released Tuesday.

UH will play its Big 12 home opener against Iowa State on Sept. 28.

The Cougars will visit the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth on either Oct. 4-5 and after an open date will play Kansas on Oct. 19 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., due to constructi­on at Kansas’ on-campus stadium.

The schedule also includes Big 12 newcomers Utah (Oct. 26 at TDECU Stadium), at Arizona (Nov. 14-16) and at BYU (Nov. 30). Joseph Duarte

FSU takes aim at ex-commission­er: Florida State has personaliz­ed its legal battle with the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Seminoles filed an amended complaint against the league late Monday that alleges former commission­er John Swofford cost member schools millions of dollars by acting in the best interest of his son who worked at television partner Raycom Sports.

FSU contends ACC schools have lost $82 million each year in revenue from their Tier II and Tier III media rights as a result of the conference’s deal with Raycom.

NHL 4 players face assault charges

NHL players Carter Hart of the Philadelph­ia Flyers, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote of the New Jersey Devils and Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames have been charged with sexual assault in connection with an investigat­ion into an alleged sexual assault by several members of Canada’s 2018 world junior team.

Attorneys representi­ng the players said Tuesday that each has been charged with sexual assault by police in London, Ontario. They denied any wrongdoing on behalf of their clients.

London police launched an investigat­ion in 2022 after it was disclosed that Hockey Canada had settled a lawsuit with a woman who said she was sexually assaulted by eight members of that gold medal-winning team at a gala.

GOLF Hatton joins Rahm’s LIV team

Tyrrell Hatton of England joined Saudifunde­d LIV Golf, giving the league another player from the top 20 in the world and filling out the new team led by Masters champion Jon Rahm.

LIV Golf starts its third year this week at Mayakoba in Mexico.

FIGURE SKATING Russians slip to bronze medals

Despite the disqualifi­cation of Kamila Valieva in a doping case, the Russian figure skating team still stands to get bronze medals from the 2022 Beijing Olympics .

The United States moved into the gold medal position in the team event and Japan has been upgraded to silver. The demoted Russians drop into third place, one point ahead of Canada even after being stripped of points Valieva earned.
