Megan Thee Stallion tops charts as ‘Hiss’ debuts at No. 1

All hail Houston’s rap queen. Megan Thee Stallion earned her third No. 1 single as “Hiss” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It follows previous chart-toppers “Savage” with Beyoncé and “WAP” with Cardi B.

“AHHHHH,” Megan wrote on Instagram. “Hotties we did it.”

“Hiss” arrives at the top thanks to some impressive numbers, including 29.2 million firstweek streams, 2.9 million radio airplay audience impressions and 104,000 downloads sold Jan. 26-Feb. 1.

The song is also No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.

According to Chart Data, a site that tracks music sales and news, “Hiss” earned the biggest pure sales week for a solo female rap song this decade and the biggest sales week so far this year.

After it was made official, Megan took to social media with an emotional post.

“Thank you thank you thank you! Thank you GOD, Thank you MAMA HOLLY, Thank you to EVERYONEEEEE that took the time out of their week to go hard and make this happen! I love you I appreciate you I’m so grateful,” she wrote. “Thank you for RUNNING IT UP HOTTIES. Let’s keep going hard and staying positive! Love yall”

Last week, Megan signed a deal with Warner Music Group to release her music through Hot Girl Productions and retain ownership of her master recordings and publishing. On Saturday night, she attended a preGrammy party in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“Hiss” is a brutal takedown that seems to target Drake and Tory Lanez, among others. The most talked about line — “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan/ These hoes mad at Megan’s Law” — has been taken as a reference to Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minaj’s husband and a registered sex offender who was convicted of attempted rape in 1995. Megan’s Law requires law enforcement to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.

Minaj reacted with a dayslong social media tirade in which she made fun of Megan’s physical appearance; questioned the injuries inflicted by Lanez, who was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison; and accused Megan of “lying on your dead mother” among other insults and rants. Minaj released a diss track, “Big Foot,” that set her tweets to a crude beat.

TMZ reported that a Houston cemetery has increased security around the gravesite of Holly Thomas, Megan’s mother, who died in 2019 from brain cancer. Minaj’s nonstop insults have reportedly spurred her fans, known as Barbz, to desecrate the site after its location was shared online.

Megan never responded and chose to let the music speak for itself. She has continued to promote “Hiss” with appearances on “The Breakfast Club” radio show and “Good Morning America,” where she revealed the Hot Girl Summer Tour will happen this year.

“Hotties we got THEE ALBUM AND THEE HOT GIRL SUMMER TOUR NEXT,” she wrote on Instagram. “Ps. YES IM ABOUT TO START PLANNING THEE HOTTIE PARTY LETS GET THE HENNESSYYYY.”
