HOW DOES THE VENOM GET INTO YOUR BODY?
The bee’s venom is pumped into its victim by the back-and-forth reciprocating action of the two lancets. On average a honeybee delivers between 0.14 and 0.15 milligrams of venom per sting and does so in around 30 seconds. Because the stinger is barbed, it often remains lodged in the skin and tears loose from the bee’s abdomen when it flies away, resulting in the bee’s death.
