Michael van Gerwen (31) is a professional darts player from the Netherlands. He is currently ranked number one in the world, having won the PDC World Darts Championship in 2014, 2017, and 2019. His prize money since he won his first international competition at the age of 16 has totaled more than $9 million. Van Gerwen’s technique involves taking a middle (or medium) stance, leaning significantly over the oche (pronounced like “hockey” without the H, it means the line of throw), and throwing his darts forcefully and quickly, one right after another.
