WHEN DID THE FEAR OF THE DARK ARISE?

Darkness awakens primal fears that were etched onto the human psyche many thousands of years ago. It’s an irrational reaction that we can only seek to neutralize. But at the same time, we often discount dangers that are far more real—such as electric shock or radioactivity—because our ancient ancestors didn’t know of such things and never learned to fear them.
