A GIANT AWNING AND ITS OXYGEN
Assessments vary, but a large tree is estimated to have between 1.25 million and 2 million leaves. When fully leafed out, a tree is the world’s largest and most efficient awning. Photosynthesis does more than provide a tree with nourishment: It also produces the oxygen we need to breathe. According to a report from the Arbor Day Foundation, “One mature leafy tree produces enough oxygen each season as 10 people inhale in one year.”
