Which U.S. state has the highest average IQ?
It would not be feasible to test the IQ of every American in order to compare all the states with one another. To arrive at the answers here, researchers instead averaged the scores of everyone in a given state who took an IQ test in 2015. They found the highest-ranking state was Massachusetts, the 7 million residents of which had an average IQ of 104.3. Rounding out the top five were New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, and Minnesota. Lowest in the rankings was Mississippi, where the average was 94.2, about 10 IQ points lower than Massachusetts. In years of education, nine out of the top 10 states were in the Northeast, with Vermont taking first place.
