Does forgetting make us smarter?

-

Researchers at the University of Toronto have found that the inability to remember isn’t necessarily a sign of mental weakness. Blake Richards and Paul Frankland say our brains actively work to forget unimportant information. Richards explains: “The brain forgets irrelevant details to aid good decision-making. If we did not forget, our brains would become overwhelmed by banalities, so forgetting keeps the brain in shape.”
