Brawley Union High School

The Brawley Union High football team recorded its first win on Friday after pummeling Yuma 61-7 in Brawley.

Helping the Wildcats to the victory was senior quarterbac­k A.J. Grijalva.

Grijalva capped a 67yard touchdown drive with a 3-yard rush that gave Brawley an early 7-0 lead over the Criminals.

He scored again in the second quarter on a rushing score then dished a touchdown pass to Blake Zeleny, to make the score 41-7.

In the third quarter, Grijalva threw another touchdown pass this time connecting with George Mickle for a 19-yard score.

Anthony Castro

Holtville High School

The Holtville High football team dominated over Desert Mirage on Friday to improve its record to 2-1.

Helping the Vikings to the 51-0 win was senior quarterbac­k Anthony Castro. In the air, Castro finished with 168 yards on eight completion­s and 13 attempts and two passing touchdowns.

On the ground, Castro rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries and scored one rushing touchdown.

Justin Cordova

Southwest High School

The Southwest High Eagles cruised to a 55-0 victory over Kofa on Friday night to improve their record to 3-0.

While the Eagles had multiple touchdown performanc­es from a variety of players, junior running back Justin Cordova helped himself to a Week 3 Gridiron Greats nominee after finishing with two touchdowns against Kofa.

Cordova rushed for a touchdown in the first half and took the first kickoff of the second half to the Kofa end zone with a couple of key blocks along the way and escaped for the 91yard touchdown.
