Brawley beats Vincent Memorial, 13-5, in tennis.

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High girls’ tennis team hosted Vincent Memorial in an Imperial Valley League match here Monday and recorded a 13-5 victory over the Scots to improve to 3-0 in IVL play.

The Wildcats used strong performanc­es from their doubles team to help earn the team victory after sweeping the Scots in the three rounds.

The No. 1 doubles team of Elaisa Tang-On and Janira Figueroa won their three matches 6-2, a victory by default and 6-0 win in the third round.

The No. 2 doubles team of Leslie Gonzalez and Kayla Lee also won their three matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0.

“I think we did excellent (Monday),” Gonzalez said.

This is the first year Gonzalez has partnered with Lee and said she enjoys working with her as they have different strengths and play well together.

“She’s really good,” Gonzalez said of Lee. “She works hard and does her best to get every ball.”

The No. 3 singles team of Marisela Zamora and Alyssa Ruiz rounded out the winning doubles team defeating their opponents 8-6 on a tie break, 6-4 and 6-0.

The Wildcats struggled a bit against the Scots’ singles’ players, No. 1 Lucia Uribe ad No. 2 Camila Lopez-Portillo.

Brawley’s No. 1 singles’ player Stacey Bendanillo fell 1-6 to Uribe and defeated Lopez-Portillo 6-2 and won her third match by default.

“I think as a team we did pretty good,” Bendanillo said. “I think I good have done a little better, but overall I played well.”

The Wildcats’ No. 2 singles player of Gabby Osuna fell 3-6 to both Uribe and Lopez-Portillo and also won her third match by default.

Brawley’s No. 3 singles player also fell to Uribe and Lopez-Portillo 0-6 and 3-6 and won her third match my default.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Southwest High with most players looking forward to the matchup.

“They are a good team, so I think we’re going to have some good and exciting matches,” Bendanillo said.
