Taxi driver homicide suspect arrested
A man who allegedly killed a taxi driver on March was arrested in Tijuana by police officers, said the Attorney General’s office.
Authorities said Víctor Manuel “Doe” was apprehended for the murder of José Gabriel Castillo Ayala, who was found deceased in a canal at Fraccionamiento Jardines del Progreso neighborhood.
Special Investigations Unit coordinator in Mexicali David Lozano said the taxi driver of the Elite company was reported missing by co-workers and family members.
The vehicle was found at Ceilán Avenue at colonia Conjunto Urbano Universitario neighborhood.
The taxi driver was last heard early March 11, when he said over the radio system that he was driving three clients to Colonia Nacionalista in western Mexicali.
Authorities said Víctor Manuel and two other individuals got the taxi on board and eventually killed the driver to take money and the vehicle.
After the driver was dead, the suspects allegedly transported the corpse to a canal.
The victim’s body was found with several knife-caused injuries in the chest, abdominal area and neck, as well as a shot in the head.
While driving back, the suspects crashed against the fence of a sports park and abandoned the vehicle, authorities said.
One of the suspects, who was identified as Kelvin Javier, was indicted in April for the murder.
