Coalition to host Thanksgiving dinner.
The Calexico Brown Bag Coalition will be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for the city’s homeless population Thursday, where individuals will also have the opportunity to receive haircuts, clothing and toiletries.
The day’s events will get underway at noon at the Our Lady of Guadalupe men’s shelter, where free haircuts will be provided by Bulldog Barber Shop until 2 p.m.
Showers will also be available at the shelter from noon to 3 p.m., a coalition press release stated.
Slightly used clothing, shoes, new underwear and toiletries will also be made available for homeless individuals at the shelter.
Individuals are then invited to the Calexico Women’s Improvement Club at 5 p.m. to get out of the cold and enjoy some Direct TV programming, made possible by El Centro TV Repair and Desert Wireless.
Tables for card and board games will also be available for the evening’s guests.
A turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be provided courtesy of the McDonald’s in Calexico, Proyecto Heber and local resident Loli Torres.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. at the WIC, located at 320 Heber Ave.
The night’s festivities will end at 9 p.m., and new blankets donated by community members will be distributed to guests.
“We will try to make this a memorable time for all as we spend our holiday with them as regular families do, together if only for a little while, said Maribel Padilla, coalition co-founder, in a written statement.
