Man arrested for alleged burglary on Christmas morning

A male subject who allegedly broke into JCPenney was arrested by Calexico police Sunday, stated a Calexico Police Department press release.

At 7 a.m. Sunday, Calexico Police officers were advised of a broken window at the front of JCPenney, located at the 300 block of East Second Street.

The alarm to the store did not activate until officers arrived and entered through the hole in the glass to examine the business, stated the press release.

Shortly after, another call was received in regard to an unknown subject trying to steal a trash can. Calexico Police Officer Carbajal responded and located a possible suspect pushing a trash can at the 400 block of E. Fifth Street.

A search of the trash can revealed it was full of new merchandis­e from JCPenney, stated the press release.

It was reported that there was still broken glass on the property that was in the trash can.

The merchandis­e was recovered and Calexico resident Cody Everette Flores was taken into custody at 12:30 p.m. Sunday by Calexico Police officers and charged for alleged burglary, possession of a burglary tools (a glass window breaker) and possession of stolen property, stated the press release.

The 31-year-old was held on three $25,000 bonds for the two felony charges and one misdemeano­r charge, stated the county Sheriff’s arrest logs.
