80, Former Westmorland resident

Kerwin Swearingen, 80, of Studio City passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016.

He was born September 6, 1936 in Erick, OK. Kerwin was a true Renaissance Man, who loved to create with his hands. He served as a paratrooper in the Army, and was a truck driver for many years. This career led to him meeting, courting and marrying the mother of his children, Carol Swearingen, who he married on August 21, 1959 in El Centro. They worked together, and were the truest meaning of life partners for fifty years. Sharing ups and downs, trials and joys. He was fiercely loyal and dedicated to his family and country. After Carol passed away, the grief was overwhelming! He turned to a bereavement group, where he met a fiery red head named Patti. They soothed each other’s pain in their losses, and soon found themselves in love. Kerwin and Patti were married on February 19, 2012 in a charming ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Love and joy had returned to his life. He renewed his faith walk with God in the years since then. Knowing he was right with his maker was very important to him. He was baptized on November 23rd of this year, by Pastor Mikels, at Village Church. He was loved greatly and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carol Swearingen and brother, Lynn Swearingen.

Kerwin is survived by his His Wife Patti Maser-Swearingen; sister, Crystal Ford; son, David Swearingen; daughters Kathy Young, Shirley Herbert, Trudy Jackson, Lynn Swearingen; grandchildren, Jared Swearingen, Jami Castleman, Daniel Swearingen, Hayley Swearingen, Scott Herbert, Sean Herbert, Samuel Herbert, and many beautiful great grandchildren.

Service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at 3216 W Victory Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505 and will be officiated by Pastor Wade.
