BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High boys’ swim team opened the 2017 season last week and competed in three meets earning a total of two team victories.
Helping the defending Imperial Valley League champs to wins was senior Ross Wilson.
The 17-year-old won a total of six individual events and was part of four winning relay teams.
Wilson also set new school records in the 100 breast against Central Union High and the 200 free against Escondido and earned two automatic CIF times in the week.
“It was more of a relief to get it,” said Wilson of the new records. “I didn’t know I’d broken it until we were heading back on the bus and coach (D’Ann) Luckey told me.”
Earlier this week, Wilson also broke the record in the 100 butterfly and now holds a total of six individual records at Brawley Union High after setting new records in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 individual medley last season.
Wilson said he hopes to hold records in all eight of the individual events and maybe a few of the relay teams as well.
The Wildcat senior swims the breast stroke in the medley relay and is also swims a leg in the 200 free relay.

What do you enjoy most about your sport?
I mostly enjoy the team aspect. I know a lot of people think swim isn’t really a team sport, but it truly is, so I mostly enjoy the people.
What is one of your more memorable moments in your sport?
I think for me it’ll be competing at Far Westers, in a meet up in San Francisco in a couple weeks.
Who inspires you and why?
My coaches inspire me. They’re always really good about motivating me and supporting me and helping me to try and do better so I can reach my highest level of achievement.
What are your goals for the rest of this season?
To break as many school records as I can and just try to keep going and see where it can take me.
