Supercells earn bid to compete in Florida.

- STAFF REPORT

Team Supercells, a small youth-level 2 team of Flipz Allstars Cheer, competed at the USA All Stars Championships in Anaheim last week in an attempt to obtain a bid for a summit in Florida later this year.

The championship event was not a scheduled season event for the Flipz gym, yet head coach Desi Dewbre felt that the Supercells team was worthy of vying in this competition for a national bid to the D2 Summit at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., this May.

Both performances with Supercells were spot on and it landed them in the “Club Zero” status for having no deductions each time.

It wasn’t until Monday evening that the Flipz coaches found out that Supercells was indeed invited to the D2 Summit.

The squad was practicing and fine-tuning its routine when Dewbre stopped practice to share the important news, which drew loud shrieks, tears and joyful jumping from the excitement of the team.

Being invited to the D2 Summit is a huge attainment for a cheer team/ gym. For this season, it is estimated that 12,000 teams, worldwide, vie for the 1,881 bids available at the summit.

Statistics show that the chances of being invited for the 103 spots available as a full-paid bid is 1.77 percent. Receiving an invite for the 483 spots available as an At-Large bid is seven percent and finally, 471 spots are available for the Wild-Card bid is six percent.

This is quite an accomplishment for the Flipz team and gym.

Flipz Supercells will be competing against teams, to name a few, from the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and Canada. It is also estimated that all teams will add up to approximately 22.5 hours of practice to their routine.

Many kids and parents in the cheer community call their gym a second home already. No doubt this season rings ever true to that credence with the Flipz family.

Team Rage a small junior level 3 team also in the Flipz family will be competing for a bid to the summit this weekend in San Diego at the Encore Championships.

Locals interested in Flipz for the next competitive season will have the opportunity to tryout on April 24-27.
