Jerry Nakasawa, Sr., 76, of Yuma, Arizona, passed away March 9th at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, California.

Jerry was born on April 19, 1940 in Alamosa, Colorado and was raised on a family farm located in San Luis Valley, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. In 1969, he met and married Mary, his loving wife of 48 years. In 1970 he relocated his family to the Imperial Valley and began working for Elmore Ranches. In 1973, Jerry starting growing for Bud of California and by 1981 started Nakasawa Farms with his brother Ben. In 1988, he relocated to Yuma to join brothers Ben and Richard growing vegetables for Tanimura & Antle. For the past 29 years he remained very active in his farming operation.

Jerry was a very caring and generous person. He supported all local F.F.A. chapters and local school sports teams. One of his favorite past times was to pass his knowledge along to the young people coming up in the farming community.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Carmen; sons, Jerry Jr., Kevin, Jonathan, and Timothy; grandchild­ren, Amanda, Daniell, Matlin, Chailee, Maelen, Cason, Tristan, Jared, and Kenzie; brother, Richard. He also leaves extended family throughout the United States.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Toshiko Kubo and Satoro “Sam” Nakasawa; brothers, David and Ben Nakasawa; In-laws, John and Claudia Segura.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 29th at Immaculate Conception Church.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to Yuma Catholic High School FFA at 2100 W. 28th Street, Yuma, AZ. 85364 or Immaculate Conception Church at 505 S. Ave. B, Yuma, AZ. 85364.
