Art show draws back supportive crowds
Art and music programs at a high school don’t always have extensive financial support.
On Wednesday night, the annual Sparta Art and Culture event was able to showcase the artistic and musical talents of Central Union High School students while raising extra funds for the school’s programs.
Held throughout the campus at Central, the public event displayed photography, graphics and ceramic projects made by students accompanied by performances from the school’s concert band, stage band, drum line, tall flags and Sparteens.
“It’s really nice to see all the kids showing off what they’ve learned throughout the year,” commented Maria Aguayo, a proud grandmother who came to the event for her second year in a row see her granddaughter Alexis perform in the school’s band.
Aguayo was just one of the approximately 1,200 people who attended the sixth annual event, which had the same number of attendance its previous year.
While the event had free admission, those in attendance could support the school’s Visual, Vocational and Performing Arts programs by purchasing dinner meals or snacks from vendors on site.
“It’s as strong as last year and every year it just continues to be a wonderful event,” said Central teacher Tom Tacke, who was glad the event’s fundraising was able to help purchase extra supplies needed by the school’s programs.
