Imperial County Board of Supervisor­s appoint Liza Barraza as new Child Support Services director.

On Tuesday, the Imperial County Board of Supervisor­s announced the appointmen­t of Liza Barraza as the new director of Imperial County’s Child Support Services Department (ICCSS), effective immediatel­y.

“We are looking forward to working with Mrs. Barraza in this new capacity and know that her leadership and profession­al network will continue to move our collaborat­ive efforts forward with our binational counterpar­ts and partners in order to increase the quality of services our Department of Child Support Services currently provides to the children and families they serve,” said Chairman Michael Kelley, District 3 supervisor.

As the Child Support Services Director, Barraza will oversee ICCSS and coordinate activities with the California Department of Child Support to assure compliance with federal and state regulation­s.

ICCSS promotes the well-being of children and the self-sufficienc­y of families by delivering firstrate child support establishm­ent, collection and distributi­on services that help both parents meet the financial, medical and emotional needs of their children.

About her new position, Barraza said, “I am excited about the opportunit­y to take on the role of director of Child Support Services and would like to thank the Board of Supervisor­s for their confidence in me. As a native of Imperial Valley, I am committed to this county and am eager to continue working hard with our child support team at the department, the CEO, the Board, and the State Department of Child Support Services in finding innovative ways to increase the reliabilit­y of child support for the families that need them.”

Barraza, a resident of Calexico, graduated from Vincent Memorial High School, received her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, and her law degree from California Western School of Law.

She is married with two children.

Barraza has been an employee of the County of Imperial since 2002, where she began her career with the Imperial County Office of the County Counsel as a law clerk.
