Santana tops All-IVL list
This year’s Imperial Valley League boys’ tennis title was once again captured by the team from Vincent Memorial High.
The Scots went undefeated in local action this year to capture the crown with a trio of strong singles’ players and a tough No. 1 doubles’ team.
Helping Vincent Memorial to another strong IVL finish was junior and No. 1 singles’ player Mariano Santana.
Santana went undefeated in IVL action and also captured the singles’ championship in the IVL tourney this season.
For his efforts, Santana was awarded Player of the Year honors.
The award landed him on the All-Imperial Valley League list, a repeat honor for Santana.
Santana earned All-IVL honors last year as part of the Scots’ No. 1 doubles’ team.
Santana also did will in CIF play, helping the Scots advance to the second round of the CIFSan Diego Section Div. I tourney.
In singles’ action, Santana also advanced to the second round of CIF action.
Joining Santana on the AllIVL list were fellow teammates and singles’ players Francisco Moreno and Diego Gallastegui.
Gallastegui, a senior, also earned All-IVL honors last season, while Moreno is new to the list the season.
Rounding out the All-IVL list for the Scots was doubles’ team Rolando Rodarte and Alvaro Gallastegui.
The pair competed well all season for the Scots in their first season as partners.

In addition to the Scots, players from Central Union, Southwest High and Brawley Union High had multiple players make the All-IVL team.
For Brawley Union High, Richard Mortimer and Jerry Esquer earned league honors for their senior season.
For Central, a pair of juniors made the list in Jorge Lopez and Isaac Gomez, while the Eagles saw a mix of talent earn league honors.
Sophomore Raj Toor repeated as an All-IVL selectee, while junior Calvin Patel and freshman Dario Rodriguez were new to the list the season.
