Woman arrested for alleged drug-smuggling attempt.
A 45-year-old Pomona woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than seven grams of heroin into Calipatria State Prison, the prison reported.
Prior to her arrest, Griselda Munoz Vasquez was observed acting suspiciously as she attempted to enter one of the prison’s visiting rooms, a press release stated.
Vasquez was subsequently approached by prison staff, who noticed Vasquez allegedly had an object in her mouth, the press release stated.
Vasquez reportedly removed two bindles from her mouth with a combined weight of 7.6 grams of suspected heroin, which had an estimated prison value of $5,700, the press release stated.
A subsequent consented search of Vasquez revealed no further contraband.
The evidence collected linked Vasquez to inmate David Vasquez to the alleged crime. Inmate Vasquez, who is serving a sentence in connection to a second-degree armed robbery conviction, was placed in administration segregation unit. Griselda Vasquez was booked into county jail and is facing felony charges, which if convicted, could result in three to five years in prison.
