PMH experiences brief power outage.
On Tuesday, the electricity for Pioneers Memorial Hospital and its nearby surrounding areas partially went off.
The brief power outage did not affect any patients in the hospital and the power was completely restored by the end of the day, confirmed PMH Director of Communications Frank G. Salazar.
Electricity was interrupted due to avian activity. A bird flew through some nearby power lines, causing the interrupting, explained Salazar.
Shorty after 11 a.m. the hospital experienced the short outage. Within 10 minutes, Imperial Irrigation District employees arrived on scene and restored approximately half of the electricity lost within the hour.
The operation of the hospital was never affected by the outage as all areas of the hospital were supported by power generators, said Salazar.
IID and other emergency service members worked to restore electricity to the affected areas of the hospital.
The air condition for the main entrance building of the hospital required maintenance. Across the street, the wound center and physical therapy building both lost electricity in their hallways and some offices.
An office in the wound center closed for the day due to the outage.
Nearby residences on Legion Road were also reportedly af- fected.
By 5 p.m., Salazar stated that 85 percent of the hospital’s electricity had been restored.
“Our patients’ safety is our number one concern. We worked with local emergency services and staff had been monitoring the hospital very closely throughout the day,” commented Salazar on the incident.
Electricity was then completely restored to the hospital by the end of the day, confirmed Salazar.
