June and July report to the Board of Trustees

More than 100 students attended the IVC Student Health Center’s first Mental Health Awareness Walk on May 17. The Associated Student Government assisted, and the theme was “Break the Stigma.”

The ASG hosted a workshop at the college’s 1st Step event, where incoming students were informed of the many services IVC has to offer. Students also were taught “hacks” the ASG team has learned while attending IVC. Among the hacks are: utilizing the Cloud for saving docili i professor.com; purchasing books from other students through Facebook pages; and renting textbooks vs. purchasing them.

On May 25, ASG held the “Life’s A Beach” event, giving away 400 hot dogs, beverages and bolis. There were various competitio­ns in which students participat­ed. “Students had fun and enjoyed utilizing the pool.”

An estimated 200 people attended the Spring Awards Banquet on June 2 at Club Lohoo in Heber. More than 65 awards were presented to students for achievemen­ts in academics and leadership.

A during summer school, the ASG gave away free beverages to the student body, while supplies lasted. The drinks were donated by Pepsi as a promotion.

In a blood drive July 6, the ASG saw 28 donors, 22 of them donating blood for the first time., and reached 117 percent of its goal. All donors received a Lifestream T-shirt as well as a drawing ticket for the chance to win two tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm. The next blood drive is Sept. 20 in front of the gym.
