Robert Villareal Swain, 86, of Brawley, CA passed away comfortabl­y at home on Sunday, August 13, 2017 in Brawley, CA.

Robert V. Swain was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico and attended high school in Brawley, CA where he played football for the Brawley Union High School Wildcats, (1947-1950) and graduated in 1950. He then went on to serve in the United States Army as a mortar man and would earn the title of Paratroope­r as a member of the 82nd Airborne from 1951-1953. He enjoyed over 30 years of employment with the USDA working in the fields and labs of their center located in Brawley, CA before retiring in 1989. That same year on February 28th, he married Lucy C. Swain in El Centro, CA. Robert returned to work for the USDA, which became Imperial Valley Research, and continued to work and consult for over another 20 years.

Robert fathered 9 children, was grandfathe­r to 25, great grandfathe­r to 26 and great great grandfathe­r to 1.

He was preceded in death by father, Raul R. Swain; mother, Rebecca V. Swain; brothers, Sergio v. Swain and Bruce V. Swain; sisters, Aurora Swain and Stella Ramirez; sons, Richard “Rico” Swain and Alfonso Swain.

He is survived by wife, Lucy C. Swain of Brawley; sisters, Amanda Swain of Brawley and Cecilia S. Garcia of Hacienda Heights; daughters, Deborah Swain Garcia of Indio, Connie Swain of Palm Desert, Rebecca Swain Day of Bermuda Dunes and Suzanne Swain Barros of Brawely; sons, David M. Swain of El Centro, Tommy R. Serrano of Brawley and Roberto C. Swain of Brawley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, CA. Burial service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
