FPPC to sanction former local candidate
SACRAMENTO — The California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) plans to sanction a former candidate for an Imperial County election seat in the middle of this month.
The state agency, which sanctions in compliance with the California Policy Reform Act, includes in its Thursday agenda a disciplinary matter against the former candidate for the office of the Public Administrator, Christian Legaspi.
The lawyer campaigned in 2014 for the position which was won by Norma Saikhon.
Official documents by the agency indicate that the case will be analyzed by the full committee on Thursday.
An inquiry by the Chief Investigator, Galena West, states that the candidate’s campaign committee violated section 84211 of the California Government Code.
In the document, Legaspi admits violations of the State Law and voluntarily requests the commission to resolve the matter through the imposition of a monetary penalty.
In total, the commission will impose a fine of $ 501.
In the document, Legaspi voluntarily refuses any right to request an administrative hearing in order to analyze the issue.
The former candidate did not report contributions for $2,881 dollars received between Jan. 1 and March 17, 2014.
Legaspi also did not disclose contributions of $5,380 and expenses of $7,380 between March 18 and June 30 of the same year.
According to the commission, the candidate amended all his statements in order to make this information public.
In total, the agency detected $15,641 in undeclared funds.
The commission added it found no evidence that Legaspi had attempted to hide the information from state authorities.
