Kirchenbauer tourney features $1 million shot
HOLTVILLE — The 12th annual John A. Kirchenbauer Memorial Golf Tournament is set to tee off at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Imperial Palms Resort, and one golfer will get the opportunity to take a shot for $1 million.
The winner of the tournament’s closest-to-the pin competition — the Rabobank Million Dollar Shootout — will get one, 165-yard shot for $1 million.
The tournament helps raise funds for the Holtville High School Green and Gold Hall of Fame. The organization supports youth sports camps for all Imperial Valley youngsters and provides scholarships for Holtville High School students and faculty.
“Everyone has a good time when they come out for the tournament. Somebody gets a shot at $1 million; there’s a lot of good giveaways, and it’s all for a good cause,” said Murray Anderson, golf tournament director for the Hall of Fame committee. “We had a record-number of golfers last year, and we’re hoping for the same this year.”
Every golfer in the event will have the chance to win a new car from Rogers & Rogers when they step to the tee box on Hole No. 9, and every golfer will get to test their long-drive skills on Hole No. 10.
The Rabobank Million Dollar Shootout takes place on Hole No. 11.
Included in the post-tournament drawing are VIP tickets to the Los Angeles Clippers’ game on April 7 against the Denver Nuggets.
New this year to the post-tournament activities is a silent auction for four VIP tickets, plus parking, for the Los Angeles Lakers’ game on April 8 against the Utah Jazz.
The tournament format is a four-person scramble with the cost of $100 per golfer or $350 for a team of four.
Included are breakfast, lunch, entry into the post-tournament drawing and a golfer’s welcome bag.
Those interested in signing up for the event must do so no later than 5 p.m. Thursday by stopping by the Holtville Chamber of Commerce at 101 W. Fifth St. or the pro shop at the Imperial Palms Resort.
