ALEXANDERI­A “SANDRA” LAPOLLO

Alexanderi­a “Sandra” Lapollo, 71, of Amherst, MA, passed away on March 23, 2018 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Born December 15, 1946 in Harriman, TN, she was the daughter of John Gilmor and Gwendolyn (Brazelton) Swerdfeger.

Sandra attended boarding school at the Bishops in La Jolla, CA and went on to further her education at Grinnell College in Iowa. Since 1991, Sandra has lived in Amherst, previously of Colrain, Massachuse­tts, and Brawley, California.

She was the Executive Director of the Chicopee Council on Aging for over two decades before her retirement in January 2017. Sandra received numerous awards and accolades during her tenure as Executive Director including a life-time achievemen­t award from the Massachuse­tts Associatio­n of Councils on Aging in 2016, MCOA Innovator of the Year award in 2007, and the “Anna Brown Award” for her work as a COA Director in Franklin County, and because of her dedication, it was announced that both April 20th, 1994 and January 12th, 2017 were “Sandra Lapollo Appreciati­on Day”.

Part of her legacy was spearheadi­ng the developmen­t of River Mills Center in Chicopee. Prior to Chicopee, she was the director at Shelburne Falls COA. In her leisure, Sandra enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking & sharing food with loved ones, and was an avid Red Sox and Green Bay Packers fan.

Sandra was a proud and loving mother and will be incredibly missed by her three sons, Gabriel Lapollo and wife Jessica of Northfield, Daniel Lapollo and wife Amanda of Chicopee, and Nicholas Lapollo of Amherst; nephews Ronald E. (Dawn) Swerdfeger II, John (Betty) Swerdfeger all of California.

Besides her parents, she was predecease­d in death by her adoptive father, Ronnie Swerdfeger and brother, John Swerdfeger.

Services were held on Friday April 6th at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home.

CONSUELO NOGALES DAVALOS

Consuelo Nogales Davalos, 88, of Calexico, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018, from complicati­ons of heart disease.

Consuelo was born in Azusa, California on August 17, 1929 to Felipe and Maria Davalos. She married Antonio “Tony” Nogales on July 15, 1951 and they made their home in Calexico where they raised seven children.

Consuelo was an extremely devoted mother to her four daughters and three sons. As her children grew older and more independen­t, she demonstrat­ed her entreprene­urial spirit, becoming a very successful Avon salesperso­n in Calexico for many years. In addition, her strong Catholic faith and loyalty to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church was well-known and admired by all who knew her.

Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Tony; her sisters Enriqueta, Maria and Concha, and her brothers, Armando and Felipe.

She is survived by her daughters, Ana Maria Nogales-Till (Mike), Irma Cecilia (David Hostetter), Emma Guadalupe (Frederick Origel) and Olga Celina Garcia (Robert); her sons, Jose Antonio, Felipe Jesus (Susan) and Juan Rodolfo; 28 grandchild­ren, 21 great-grandchild­ren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will sorely miss her.

In addition to her large and extended family, Consuelo was deeply loved and treasured by her many neighbors and friends in Calexico and Mexicali.

Visitation and Rosary will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary, 1820 Imperial Avenue, Calexico. Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 124 East 4th Street, Calexico. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

LETTA FAYE NUCKOLS MARTINEZ

Nov.13, 1939- Apr. 8, 2018

Letta Faye Nuckols Martinez, 78, of Brawley peacefully passed from this life to her eternal life on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in her home. She was born to Fred and Ruby Nuckols on November 13, 1939 in Lilbourn, Missouri.

Letta married Hector Martinez on April 22, 1970 in Mexicali.

As a young girl, Letta loved basketball. She attended Kewanee High School in Kewanee, Missouri and was an All-Star basketball player. She worked at Magnolia School, Brawley Union High School and Mulberry School. She loved preparing special meals for all her kids.

Her children and grand-children had a very special place in her heart. She was very proud of them and especially proud of her great-grandchild­ren. She would enjoy afternoons on her front porch watching them play in the yard. Letta and Hector would often enjoy an afternoon at a casino.

Letta was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruby James Nuckols; brother, Freddie Nuckols; and son, Hector “JR” Martinez.

Letta is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Hector; son, David (Petite) Mainord; daughters, Valerie (Danny) Hilburn and Kelley Mainord Mendibles; brother, Dale (Elvira) Nuckles; sisters, Shelia Sullivan, Linda Cheatham, Donna Rabideau and Janet Romero; grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be said on Tuesday, April 17th at 9:30 a.m. and Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Brawley with Father Manuel Gutierrez Del Toro officiatin­g. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
