Slain woman’s boyfriend arrested

The Attorney General’s office said the boyfriend of the woman found dead Monday was arrested and transported to Mexicali.

The suspect has been identified as Sergio Enrique “Doe,” 24, who was apprehended Wednesday in Sonoyta, Sonora, Mexico with an undisclosed amount of drugs.

The suspect was transported to Mexicali on Thursday night, according to the report.

Authorities recalled Valeria Ahumada Jáuregui, 23, was found dead Monday at 2:51 p.m. in a building under construction at the neighborhood of Colonia Lomas de Abasolo in eastern Mexicali.

The agency said the victim’s relatives identified the woman, who was reported missing since April 14.

Detectives gathered evidence that led investigators towards the suspect as the presumed murderer.

An indictment hearing for feminicide or homicide of a female has been scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. If convicted Enrique faces up to 50 years in prison.
